Recap

After last week’s emphatic and potentially title defining win vs one our fiercest rivals Espacio Monsul, FCB returned to the infamous ‘SEX TOYS ARENA’, where no fewer than two weeks before they had succumbed to a surprising defeat against Union Selección who share the ground with Villaverde. The ground name, as jolly as it may seem can be a difficult venue for any team to get the three points they desire.

With the team in buoyant mood and the sound of Con Limon’s tunes blaring out, the lads were raring to go. The FCB line-up also saw the return of the energetic and powerhouse midfield presence of Luismi. He was involved straight away in the action and was linking up well receiving the ball from defence and then looking to start attacks as well. A welcomed return to the team who will pivotal in helping us fulfill our ambitions this season.

However, the early stages of the game brought similar frustrations to what we faced the last time we visited the arena. Though the boys were playing very well and creating plenty of chances, we could just not find the breakthrough and missed an array of opportunities to take the lead. 0-0 at Half-time and Rami’s blood pressure was at boiling point.

It took until deep into the 2nd half for FCB to be presented with their clearest chance, after some good wing-play from Harry he found himself in the box and rounded the onrushing GK and was brought down. A clear penalty and the boys had a real chance to get the breakthrough goal they do desperately craved.

The scenes that were about to unfold were of total disbelief and something many of us have never seen in football before. With Lewis ready and beginning his regular routine on the spot, the goalkeeper in full Usain Bolt like style sprinted out as fast as he could and gave the ball his biggest welly clearing the half-way line. The boys in total shell shock as if they’d just witnessed Peter Kay doing his best rendition of the John Smith’s ‘Avvv it’ sketch. Rightly so, the Villaverde was booked and then a further double blow was soon to follow when Lewis broke the deadlock sending the ‘Looney Tune’ keeper the wrong way.

Instant relief, this reflected in the way the team finished the game as FCB turned on the style with a lot more zip in their passes and space being found in behind all the time. This led to Ish being expertly found in the box from a reverse pass from Lewis and Isma dispatched calmly, 2-0! Two was soon to become 3 when the Villaverde defender handled on the line, denying Harry another set-piece goal which has become a common theme in recent weeks from the impressive deliveries of the evergreen Joseph Simmons! No GK dramas this time other than him being sent the wrong way again and FCB were in complete control 3-0. The final goal of the came after some lovely link up play between Chema & Calum which lead to Joe Price being slid through on goal 1v1 who unselfishly squared the ball for Lewis to grab his third of the game and the match-ball. This was Lewis’ 9th hatrick and 38th goal of the season to date. 4-0, Game-over and 3 points in the bag. Next week, the boys welcome Cervezas Mahou to Las Cocheras in the first of 3 home games in a row where 3 victories will secure FCB their first Clausura championship.

MOM: Chema
DOD: Coach Mike for giving verbal abuse to the referee and the Villaverde GK.
