FCB returned to competitive action with a home fixture against Amiviajes in their opening match of the Bunwer Apertura. The team was a mixture of old faces and new recruits. With captain Rama still recovering from last season’s injury and Fabian still being teetotal in Norway, FCB started with a changed line-up from the match the week before. FCB lined up with Jorge in goal, three centre backs of Dorus, Macca & Jimmy. A midfield five of Luigi, new face Max, Calum. Michael PC and Ed with a front two of Isma and Lewis. Rami’s orders were to keep tight and go full out attack. After using last season’s highest goal-scorers in the league trophy for motivation in his team talk and some ‘interesting’ phrases the boys went out to put his plan into action.

Straight from the kick-off, FCB were at their opponents and the pressure paid off after only 4 minutes when Lewis squared across the box for Isma to get a tap-in and open his account for the season. 5 minutes later roles were reversed with a similar move, Isma finding Lewis in the box for a typical poacher’s goal. FCB were attacking in waves and punishing their opponents with some slick interplay. On 13 minutes Lewis passed to Max on the edge of the area who controlled with his left and then curled it past the keeper on his un-favoured right foot. Lewis helped himself to his second of the match on 23 minutes and it looked like a rout was on the cards and the golden boot winner was going to run riot. Disaster struck on 23 minutes for Lewis who clashed heads with an opposition player, splitting his eye open with a nasty looking cut. New face John came on and Lewis went off for some pitchside first-aid courtesy of Conchi.  Some last-ditch tackles and surprising good goalkeeping kept FCB at bay for a further 8 minutes until John opened his account for the league and continued where he left off in a friendly the week before. FCB were now 4 goals up but relentlessly kept pushing forward with John grabbing his hattrick within 6 minutes of coming on and Calum getting in on the act on 39 minutes. The opposition seemed to be spurred on by what was happening at the other end and mounted attack requiring a fine save from Jorge to keep them at bay. The resulting corner was swung in and the opposition striker rose to head in a fine effort and restore a little pride before half time.

Half-time 8-1

No changes from either side at half-time and FCB continued where they left off with waves of attacks. On 57 minutes a fine interchange of play between Calum, Max and Ed ends with Ed squaring the ball for Calum to finish the move he started. 4 minutes later it was 10 with John grabbing his 4th of the game with a header from a corner. Joe came on for MPC who was carrying a knock since the first minute on 67 minutes and add some more energy to the team. Not to be kept in the shadows, Ed got in on the act on 73 minutes with a composed finish past the opposition keeper after a neat through ball from Macca. That was Macca last act of the game as he came off for Josh and a well-deserved rest after a stellar performance. 9 minutes later it was 12 with Calum grabbing his hattrick after a fine drive into the box and a neat finish from a tight angle.  On 86 minutes Joe drove into the box and finished with aplomb off the inside of the post to break his goalscoring drought after what was a frustrating end to last season.  With the referee feeling a little sorry for the opposition and the result in no doubt, he blew his whistle to finish the game. Overall, a fine performance from FCB with some clinical finishing. Next up for FCB is last season’s champions Espacio Monsul nee Bar La Piscina away at Perales del Rio aka Mordor.
