The lads were up for the game after a 6-3 win the previous week and wanted a better goalscoring record. Rami opted for a more traditional 4-4-2 this week. The stage was set as they took to the field in Cuidad de Rayo Vallecano. The back line consisted of a returning Hutch in net, Ricky, Omar, Rama and Ed. The middle was Oscar, Luigi, Mathi and Calum and up top was Joe and Nacho.

The game started with some very organised movement and pressing from the FCB as they attempted to attack with speed once the ball was won back, this proved very effective. The pace of Joe and Nacho was causing problems for Mahou from the get go. The scoring was opened when Nacho got to a seemingly unattainable pass down the right-hand side and proceeded to, quite selflessly, cut it back to Calum who slotted the ball into the net. 0-1. The game resumed the passing and pressing from the men in red was fast, accurate and without mercy. Joe was blown offside on more than a few occasions much to bench’s befuddlement. Some great work down the left from Luigi and Mathi resulted in Mathi setting up Joe. 0-2. Nacho was causing mayhem everywhere he went and it was not long before he assisted Luigi in getting a goal. The Venezuelan scoring with his right foot! Who knew he had one? 0-3. Three minutes later he proceeded to score his second of the match with his much favoured left foot. 0-4. Was he in for a match ball this day?

With the game well in hand, Rami decided to make some changes and give the men on the bench (who were desperate to get in on the action) a chance to bloody themselves. Pete came on for Rama and Ricky slid to centre half. The game proceeded much the same as the first half. The men in yellow and navy unable to match the pace and fitness (thanks to the attentions of an uncompromising German fitness coach during training) of the men in red and white. It took until the 75th minute for the fifth goal to materialise and it was Nacho who claimed the glory. 0-5. Three minutes later he did something never witnessed before during an FCB match. He gave the ball to Mathi during a one on one with the keeper. When did strikers become so selfless? Take heed Joe 😉 0-6. The men in yellow managed to get a free kick on the edge of the area and pulled back a goal, 1-6. A few more changes were made, Jordan coming on for Luigi (No hat-trickfor him!), Marcel for Ed, Macca for Ricky, Sam for Joe and Alberto for a very tired Mathi. Nacho got his second of the game when he ran through, slowing down just in case the referee blew for offside (which had been his go to this game), but silence followed the Spaniard as he ran on to put the ball in for his second of the game. 1-7. A deflated opposition faced the away team and a small ray of hope was offered when a man in yellow was given too much space and time in the middle of the pitch. He passed a ball in behind to a man clearly offside, as evidenced by the referee holding up his hand, laughing and then changing his time to stop play. The striker was pursued by Macca and then a rather dubious decision to give a penalty for the home side striker losing a battle of strength was made. The aforementioned striker stepped up to put the ball in the net. 2-7.

Full-time 2-7.

Man of the match: Nacho
Miss of the match: Joe (We were told you could head the Ball, where is the evidence?!!!)
Quote of the match: Rami “Hold my glasses, Macca!”
