Recap
The game started with both teams showing respect for the tragic events which took place in Paris on Friday. The emotions felt keenly by all present as the minute silence was observed.
The game kicked off with FCB using their fitness and speed to go at Union Selection, however the Spaniards retaliated with a master class in passing. Both sides continued like for most of the first half with scarce chances going begging for both sides. The US keeper using his acting skills to get fouls where his only opponent was a strong wind. The first half was frustrating for both sides as each tried to break the deadlock. The first half ended with a wake up call for FCB. Some pressure on the defence and keeper ended in an interception and easy goal for the visitors. 1-0.
HALF TIME
Only 11 men know what was said in that dressing room at half time (12 if you count Fleck), was it the hair dryer treatment, was it encouragement with some tactical advice? Whatever it was it worked. FCB came out and were making better progress than before. A goal disallowed for another strong wind blowing over the keeper. Followed up by a response that made it clear, “do what you want, we will still score.” 1-1, the goal was scrambled but it was a start. The pressure continued as Ish was making the full back’s life a living hell. He broke through and lobbed the keeper in order to run on and score, a professional foul followed with no blow of the whistle, no matter, Zak was on hand to volley the ball home. Ish made his feelings known with a celebration in the face of the keeper, who needless to say, wasn’t happy and reacted in a juvenile manner. Despite all this, the keeper stayed out the book and a few FCB players were booked, rather one sided you might say. It didn’t discourage the players though and they pressed on to finish off US. Rama came on at centre back and Pedro on the wing, Luigi going off injured and a frustrated Tarek coming off. Alberto went down the left and made trouble by breaking into the box and forcing a foul. The referee had no choice, penalty. Zak stepped up and calm slotted it away. 3-1. The game finished with more civility than the previous meeting of these two teams. FCB were let off with a win on a day when the play just wouldn’t flow the way they wanted.
