FCB’s Apertura quest continues after making it six wins from six with a comfortable away win at Animales.
A pulsating second half atoned for a lackluster first as FCB returned from their close city rivals with all 3 points.
A host of changes were made to the team that ran out nine-nil winners a week earlier. FCB got the game underway kicking from right to left. The visitors started slowly and rarely looked like scoring in the opening 20 minutes, suppressed by an Animales team that had lined up to absorb pressure and strike on the counter attack. Returning keeper Hutchison remained untroubled in the sticks, protected by a new look-makeshift back four. Chances were few and far between, and leading talisman Harry was left frustrated leading the line. FCB did however begin to carve out chances, and were unlucky not to go in to the lead just before half time, a good passage of play saw Harry excellently denied by the keeper, only for the follow up to be blazed over by Mereiles.
The game resumed and FCB looked rejuvenated after the break, knowing that if they remained patient then quality would ultimately prevail. The Brits started quickly and began to use the ball more effectively, with midfield dynamo Callum Cant beginning to run the show in what was a stand out performance for the young central midfielder. The referee dubiously ruled out a goal after Harry’s excellently struck free kick appeared to have crossed the line, and this buoyed the Brits who continued to press hard for the opener.
A tactically inspired substitution saw Luigi enter the game, and it was moments later the Italian nodded home from close range after a goal mouth scramble.
Animales 0-1 FCB
The goal lifted spirits and FCB sought a second that would effectively end the game. Deputising Jordan Mellon made way for Alexis after an impressive first performance in the red and white strip, and it was the Frenchman who excellently converted from 18 yards out after running on to a through ball from Talbot.
Animales 0-2 FCB
The referee brought the game to an end and FCB maintained their 100% start to the season. Heading in to Puente next week Majids’ men have averaged 4.5 goals a game and have conceded just 0.5 goals a game
