Recap
FCB went into their opening game of the new Bunwer season ready for business sporting their new kit sponsored by The Spectrum IFA Group. FCB were missing a couple of regulars due to injury but also welcomed a few new faces. With Josue away, Hutch started his first game between the sticks. FCB lined up Hutch in goal, a back 4 of Macca, Dorus, Christian & Ricky. Midfield Fabian, Christoph, Ben & Sean with Zak and Ismael playing up top in a very fluid formation. FCB were at it from the whistle and a familiar pattern started to emerge of FCB attacking but letting themselves down with a final pass or finish. The opposition were sitting back but trying to hit FCB on the counter-attack using the pace of their young forward. The breakthrough came on 35 minutes when a ball found it’s way to Christop on the edge of the box and he calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner to put FCB in the lead. Just before half-time disaster struck as a mix up at the back left the ball at the feet of the opposition striker from 10 yards and he helped himself to the equaliser. FCB went in at half-time frustrated and wondering how they were drawing the game.
Half time 1-1
FCB came out in the second half a different animal. Christoph came off and Luigi came on in his place and within five minutes of the second half he had made his mark. He received the ball in midfield and laid it out to Ricky on the right wing who knocked the ball forward and then hit a first time ball into the opposition penalty area into the path of Ben who hit it first time into the net to open his account for the season. The opposition were now feeling the pressure and 10 minutes later Isma hustled the opposition defender on the edge of his box, stole the ball from him on and then calmly rounded the opposition keeper. It was all FCB, a ball into the box from Ben and Zak got himself off the mark then 5 minutes later the opposition keeper spilt the ball and Isma unselfishly passed the ball across to substitute Quique to score. With 10 minutes to go, Dom came on for Dorus and made an immediate impact. The ball broke to him on the edge of the box and spotting the opposition keeper off his line promptly lobbed the keeper into the top corner. 5 minutes later FCB won a free kick on the edge of the box, Dom stepped up and despatched a powerful shot into the top corner. The ref restarted the game and then promptly put the opposition out of their misery with the final whistle.
A good performance from FCB particularly in the second half and a warning to the rest of the league that despite a host of departures FCB are reinforced and ready to add to their trophy cabinet again.
