Recap
After an enforced absence due to the COVID situation, FCB returned to the field for their first match in over 6 months. With one training session under their belts, FCB played a pre-season friendly against CF Iberos.
With missing and departed players, FCB fielded a mix of players old and new and lined up in the familiar 3-5-2 formation used to great effect last season.
Oisin
Omar Gonzalo Josh M
Joe S Luigi Calum Jimmy Joe P
John Lewis
Iberos fielded a host of new faces, nearly all young and athletic and captained from the back by experienced player/manager Pedro.
FCB started off and looked to attack from the whistle and created a couple of nice chances but looked rusty at times. FCB mounted a host of attacks but the heat looked like it was taking effect and after 20 mins Rami made his first subs of the match taking of Josh and John and replacing them with Alex and Simon. FCB continued pressing and eventually made the breakthrough courtesy of captain Calum, who beat 2 players and then hit an audacious chip over the keeper from inside the box. A few minutes later it was 2-0 with debutant Alex shooting from the edge of the box and courtesy of a deflection it beat the keeper to put FCB in control. FCB continued pushing with Lewis missing an open goal and then hitting the crossbar. Just before the break, the ball broke to Joe P who sped down the wing and then hit an Alan Shearer-esk screamer with his unfavoured right into the top corner.
Half-time: 3-0
The second half kicked off and Iberos were a different team, with more fight and determination. Rami rotated the subs again and Iberos eventually found a way through with 2 quick fire goals to put themselves back in it. FCB were having none of it though and started to pepper the opposition penalty box as they started to become tired. A host of chances were sent just wide or straight at the keeper before Lewis helped himself to a John Jarret style tap-in from 5 yards out and the match was settled.
Result: 4-2
Some encouraging signs but also the lads know that there is still work to do before the season kicks off.
