Recap

After last week, it seemed like the boys in red had found their way again and a visit to Aravaca to meet AAPLA was a good opportunity to confirm it. However, a resounding 3-0 defeat brought back ghosts from a very recent past.

The starting eleven was formed by Hutch in goal, Sean, Rama, Ricky and Pete in defence, Ed, Fabian, Ben and Calum in front of them, with Hughes and Luigi lurking the home side’s penalty box. Due to an injury, Foxy replaced Hughes early in the game.

We can’t talk about this game without mentioning the best player on the pitch, AAPLA’s number 16, who managed to singlehandedly earn the 3 points in dispute for his team, and he did so without even scoring a goal. Though he was controlled for most of the game by FCB’s defensive line (especially well marked by Ricky in the second half), he managed to create 3 chances by slaloming past every player who tried to stop him and creating loose balls in the box his teammates knocked in a goal.

The truth is FCB created chances and could have scored at least a goal in the first half, but the bar and the keeper denied them of that and they reached half-time losing 1-0. At the start of the second-half, everyone had the feeling an equaliser was finally coming since FCB were playing close to AAPLA’s goal and there seemed to be no reaction from the home side, but an isolated play led to another goal and everything became even more uphill after that. Despite Nate and Dorus coming on to form a back three and try to salvage at least a draw, nothing changed in attack and a final goal (an exact copy of the second one) completed a painful defeat on a cold Saturday morning.

There’s nothing left to do but keep working to revert this, as time is running out on FCB aspirations of winning this second part of the league.
