An 11:00 kick off playing at fortress Las Cocheras felt almost like a treat for the home team this weekend when compared to the ridiculously high Madrid October temperatures of the week previous. That, combined with the fact that FCB were going into the game having scored 11 goals with 0 conceded in the first 2 games, meant that there was an inevitable confidence for the All Blacks going into this one.

To Rami’s credit, this week’s pre-match prep and speech was fortunately more focused on the important details – getting all three points and another clean sheet, the lads were focused and ready to go. For that reason it was somewhat disappointing that the pre-match music failed to match the intensity and focus that Rami and Simon had provided when Northern Ireland’s answer to Norman Cook, Padraig Slane, stepped up. I still can’t really describe what the music was. What I do know is that from the changing room’s toilet cubicle it did help to get things moving… again, not sure what that means but I know it wasn’t a good thing, although now that I think about it, i do remember Harry Newman mentioning “that music actually made me feel a bit sick and dizzy before the game”.

A few changes saw FCB lineup with a 433 formation which saw Blake make his FCB debut as GK and a back four of Karlos, Gonzalo, Josh and Ed. Midfield was made up of Mats, Calum and Will with Padraig, Harry and Ish to lead the line.

The game started with FCB taking control of the ball and playing some nice stuff (albeit with a few nervy moments), with reliable service from the 2 FCB centre backs and with the whole team reducing the opposition to hopeful long balls which were eaten up by debutant Blake who looked confident in coming to collect balls over the top. No surprise then when goal machine Harry Newman provided a textbook finish to make it 1-0 on 19 minutes, thoroughly deserved.

Calum then latched onto a loose touch deep in the opposition half and slotted a left-foot finish past the goalkeeper, much to his own surprise, 2-0 to FCB who then did seem to take their foot off the gas slightly before heading in at half-time still two to the good.

Although maybe harsh in some people’s eyes, Rami’s halftime teamtalk just showed the standards expected from the squad we currently have at this football club and what is going to be needed should we want to win this league. Whatever was said worked a treat as the midfield maestro Will Sewell executed a first-time pass perfectly into Harry’s stride who never looked like missing, 3-0 FCB.

The more than impressive Karlos Wysom, like Trent Alexander Anromald then floated a beautifully weighted pass over to Harry from the right flank, from which Harry plucked it out of the air and rifled a half volley in from 20 yards out into the roof of the net. Hat-trick Harry once again, the guy makes it look easy.

Changes were made and on came Arren Sutcliffe, Joseph Simmons and EQ looking to get in on the act.

Luigi and Erick Murphy were then introduced to sure up the game for FCB.

Sure enough, Fatboy Slim himself managed to make it 5-0 after another impressive game in his return season at FCB before a comedy of errors by the opposition defence made it 6-0, 62 minutes gone. It was then that recently introduced Arren Sutcliffe boomed an inch perfect pass (so he claims) from the edge of his own 18 yard box which saw the tireless Ish bring it down like Dimitar Berbatov and dink it over the keeper to score the goal of the day for FCB. This was followed by the worst celebration of the day, as Ish ran over to his father to beg for forgiveness for previous chances missed, ouch.

Whilst FCB were still focused and looking for that third consecutive clean sheet, it was not to be. An unfortunate deflection found the opposition striker within the penalty area who smartly finished into the far left corner with some venom, that is not to say anything against Blake who had performed fantastically and provided a fantastic save just previous.

The two Eric/ks then contributed with both getting on the scoresheet, outlining FCB’s strength in depth and the sheer love of going to the final whistle.

All in all, a good day at the office, FCB ran away 9-1 winners followed by a 7 hour session of FCB Tetuan Radio, coming to all good radio streaming sites soon.
