FCB maintained their 100% start to the season with an impressive 3-2 home win over last seasons fellow title contenders Banco de España.
The game got underway in Vallecas with the Brits kicking from right to left, looking to make it three wins on the bounce. Several changes were made from the team that played out the 5-0 victory last week due to injury.
The game started at the frantic pace that many pundits had predicted, and it was first blood to Banco within the first sixty seconds as a defensive mix up allowed the clinical centre forward to smash the ball past returning goalkeeper Hutchison. The goal lifted FCB in to life, and a promising attack in the oppositions 18 drew a foul on Pedro, leaving the referee little choice but to point to the spot. Prolific forward Zac Harry stepped up and calmly dispatched it in to the bottom corner, game on. 1-1. FCB seized the initiative and began to play on the front foot, and much to the delight of coach Fletcher began to work the ball well and spread the play quickly to the wings, creating dangerous openings and a fast enthralling spectacle for the home fans. FCB took the lead on the 35 minute mark, el capitano Harry carved an opening on the edge of the box and rocketed a left foot drive in to the top corner. Fantastic individual goal. 2-1 FCB.FCB continued to dominate and posed questions that the back four of Banco couldn´t answer, and on the stroke of half time reaped the rewards when Ish Majid coolly lifted the ball over the out rushing goalkeeper. An excellently taken goal from a man who has started the season in fine form. The referee blew the whistle for half time and FCB left the pitch with a deserved two goal cushion.
The game resumed and the lads were under no disillusion that there would be an early storm to weather. It was however FCB who started the most brightly, and should have put the game to bed when Zac Harrys´ rebounded shot drew an excellent save from the follow up by Luigi. FCB were marshaled by midfield dynamo C.Cant, who anchored and dominated in an otherwise attack minded midfield. Banco pulled a goal back in the 80th minute through a cross that eluded the defense and allowed the centre forward to poke the ball in to the roof of the net. 3-2. It was a backs to the wall job for the final ten minutes as Banco pressed for the equalizer, but FCB played with steel and determination and dug deep to secure the 3 points. An excellent team performance once again that demonstrated that this young Britanicos side are more than capable of mixing it up with the best teams in the league, playing attractive ambitious football and battling to maintain the lead challenged to.
Next up is a top of the table clash against old rivals Faustos. We´re coming for you.
