ADEPO 2-4 FCB Regional

8/1/2012 – Palomeras

The Britanico Regional boys get 2012 off to a flyer with maximum points away from home to ADEPO Palomeras.

Match Report from Michael Langan

After a promising finish to 2011, FCB travelled to ADEPO Palomeras looking for their first away points of the season. Neil Moran, sporting a smashing new haircut, was hopeful of three points against a side rooted to the bottom of the table. In favourable weather conditions, and with a wide park which made it possible to get the ball down and play, FCB lined up: Hutch, Seba, Will, Alan, Fernando, James, Stevie Mac, Lee,  Dave Pugh, Yoichi and Pat. Beginning dynamically, and pressing the ball well, FCB quickly took control of the game, and looked set to press home their superiority with a goal. However, after a degree of confusion, they found themselves, undeservedly, a goal down inside the first fifteen minutes. Undeterred, FCB kicked on, and continued to press, with the midfield five knocking the ball around nicely, and linking well with Pat up front. Soon, they were rewarded for their efforts, after Seba met a Lee Armstrong set piece, only to see his effort saved. However, as he has a happy knack recently of doing, James Hamilton was on hand to turn in from at least one yard to level the scores. FCB finished the half strongly, and should probably have taken the lead, but the scores remained level until half time.

At half time, a struggling Lee was replaced by the ever sprightly Michael in the centre of midfield. Again FCB appeared in control of the game, but again found themselves behind, following a bursting run and thundering finish to restore ADEPO’s lead. A few minutes later, however, FCB levelled, with a virtually carbon copy of their first equaliser, with club captain Tomaz on hand to turn the ball over the line and restore parity between the sides. From here, FCB began to press on, with Stevie Mac driving forward in a more advanced midfield position and, after good place on the left hand side, the ball brok to Michael at the edge of the area to finish and give FCB a deserved lead, if perhaps an hour or so later than should have been the case. Unfortunately, his luck did not hold a few moments later when, bearing down on goal, he could manage only a sclaffed effort and not put the game beyond ADEPO. However, FCB were not to be kept out, and minutes later, the game was settled after an excellent release from Stevie Mac saw Dave Pugh bearing down on goal, and slotting home in his typical cool and composed manner. From here, FCB’s levels dropped and, while they were never truly in danger of allowing ADEPO back into the game, it was slightly concerning to see the foot come off the gas but, ultimately, FCB held on for their first back to back victories, and their first away success of the season.
