FCB Bunwer Secure Top-12 Finish Despite Loss

3/3/2012 – Vallecas

Superefectivo 4-2 FCB Bunwer

It was a bittersweet feeling for FCB this morning, as results elsewhere confirmed that the Bunwer team would compete in the top-12 for the remainder of the season, despite their loss to Superefectivo. The brits put on one of their best displays of the season in the first half, and were unlucky to go behind after another defensive mix-up. Not long before the break, FCB deservedly drew level after a wonderful angled cross from Nick Boyle was smartly nodded home at the back post by debutant Madris. The second half was a tight contest, even after Superefectivo had restored their lead, however, FCB conspired to concede yet another farcical goal from a quick free-kick that the hapless brits believed had gone their way. After a long range effort deceived keeper Hutchinson, and with the contest gone from the game, Ishmael Majid scored a great goal inside the box to restore a morsel of pride to Rami’s lads.

Match Report from Michael Langan

Looking to avoid a nervy last day shootout with Banco De Espana, FCB Bunwer travelled to high flying Superefectivo. FCB lined up: Hutch, Tom, Will, Kiki, Fletch, Nick, Michael, Madris, Ishmael, Luke and George. FCB began the game well, pressing a quick moving opposition well, and having decent spells of possession. Within minutes, FCB had targeted the Superefectivo left back, and looked to release the debuting Luke at every opportunity. FCB, in continuation of their recent performances, were creating chances and looked threatening going forward, with Madris going close with two excellent strikes. However, FCB were undone by slack play just before half time. It was rough justice for FCB, who had more than matched Superefectivo in difficult conditions. However, the resolve which has been integral to the recent revival in fortunes surfaced and FCB equalised after Madris nodded home a fine cross from Nick. Half time, and parity was restored.

The second half kicked off, and FCB were pushing the ball around well and neglecting the long ball with good results. After a spell of pressure from corners, however, FCB found themselves behind again when Superefectivo turned home a spilled shot. Chasing a victory, Rami changed things up, introducing Nikki and Chaz Boyle. From here, FCB continued to push on, causing real problems from set pieces and corners, to no ultimate avail. Sadly, FCB’s own lack of concentration again was to be the ruin of them and, after confusion regarding a free kick, FCB were three one down and the game finished. From here, the contest died somewhat, and Superefectivo found a fourth goal. FCB, deservedly so, scored a consolation goal after a superb piece of individual play by Ishmael Majid, but there was to be no more and FCB slumped to another defeat. However, they could be thankful results elsewhere went in their favour, securing their position in the top 12 with a game to spare. From here we regroup, and look to impress upon a top 12 we are undoubtedly good enough to impact upon.
