FCB made the journey to Santa Eugenia hoping to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s disappointing draw. The game was the last match for the departing Isma Majid who promised before kick-off to make it a memorable match. He certainly delivered.
FCB lined up with Hutch in goal, a back four of Dorus, Christian, Sean & the returning Ed. The midfield was Ricky, Fabian, Ben (glass ankle) and Isma with Zak and Foxy playing up top. On the bench Pete, Luigi & Quique
FCB kicked off and immediately won a corner kick. The ball is whipped in and Dorus heads in to score his first goal for FCB with only 90 seconds on the clock 0-1. FCB were up for this game and were attacking at will. The opposition were finding it difficult to cope with their strength, pace and movement and within 15 minutes FCB had added to their total after missing a few clear chances. The returning Ed, marauded down the wing and whipped a ball into the box that Ben cooly headed past the keeper and FCB had scored deservedly scored another 0-2. One minute later Foxy burst into the box and unselfishly squared for Zak to get himself onto the score sheet 0-3. The departing Isma was not going to leave without a goal and ghosted past the opposition defenders before demonstrating some skills and calmly finishing àst the opposition keeper 0-4. FCB were cruising but the game changed within a couple of minutes. Zak gave away a soft penalty and a the opposition number 11 made no mistake from the spot 1-4. Three minutes later the opposition number 7 picked the ball up outside the box and let rip with a thunderbolt that flew past Hutch into the top corner 2-4. FCB were stunned that a game they were in comfortable control of was now slipping through their fingers. FCB regrouped and continued to press until half time but with no further breakthrough.
Half Time 2-4
FCB came out for the second half a different team and within 1 minute scored again with a carbon copy of the first half. FCB win a corner, the ball is whipped in and this time, Isma helps the ball into the net to make it 2-5. FCB were totally dominant and added to their total with Zak heading in a cross from Dorus 2-6 but Isma’s day was about to take a big twist. He muscled his way into the box before the opposition defender threw an arm out which connected with Isma’s face and the ref blew for a penalty. Isma was incensed and responded by kicking the balling at close range into the back of the opposition player. The ref blew his whistle and showed Isma a straight red. FCB were down to 10 and Isma’s last match was over. Zak stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from the spot 2-7. Fletch shuffled the pack with Luigi coming on for Foxy and he made his mark within moments of coming on setting up Zak for him to grab his 4th of the game 2-8. FCB were now in the zone and playing some beautiful football. Sean with some great work down the left before squaring to Zak who helped himself to his 5th of the game 2-9. Fifteen minutes later it was Sean’s turn to get his first FCB goal and an unforgettable goal celebration that involved slapping Zak around the face 2-10. Pete came on for Ed and Quique came on for Ricky as Fletch and Rami looked to rest players but disaster struck a few minutes later. Ben went down unchallenged in the middle of the field whilst walking backwards and screamed out in pain. It was the return of his infamous ‘glass ankle’ and his game was over. Having used all their subs FCB were forced to play the remainder of the game with 8 9 players but this didn’t perturb them. FCB continued to attack even with 9 men and Zak took a low pot shot from distance that the opposition keeper saved and then allowed to squirm between his legs and over the line 2-11. FCB weren’t finished and Fabian worked his way into the box before firing a shot at the goal that the opposition defence were unable to keep out 2-12. The ref blew moments later for full time and FCB celebrated a very comprehensive victory.
