A wet and windy Saturday morning in Vallecas set the scene for FCB’s home match vs bottom of the league Bar el Trampolín, however, the boys knew they had to be quick out of the traps in order to display early dominance in what had the potential to be a banana skin fixture for the Brits. Manager and professionalism obsessive Rami made sure the lads were switched on from the get-go, even despite his lateness in arriving to the pitch.

The starting line-up featured the ever-reliable Jorge between the sticks, behind a 3-5-2 formation of Rama, Ed and Harry at the back, winger”s” Adi and Matthew; a central midfield of debutant Chris, Calum and Mathi; and forwards Luigi and Nacho. On the bench, to begin with, was new boy Willem, Pete, Cian and Jordan.

The game started in a calm and patient manner from the Brits, who passed the ball around with confidence, as if knowing that the breakthrough was only a second away, provided the right things were done correctly, the boys were focused.

It didn’t take long before a trademark left-foot strike into the bottom corner by Venezuela’s only Ska fanatic Luigi put the boys 1-0 to the good, and deservedly so. The second was added only a few minutes later when Nacho used his pace and strength to break through Trampolín’s defence and casually slotted home after rounding the opposition goalkeeper, 2-0. FCB then added another after a ball over the top of the defence was taken down in style and nodded in by the same man, 3-0. The boys at this point, still looking as composed as they did in the opening 15 minutes, were really begin to enjoy themselves.

HALF TIME

Luigi notched another before Ed realised a pile-driver from at least 25 yards, and the fact was that yes, it was a shot that ended up in the corner from at least 25 yards, 5-0. Shortly after, Nacho netted his hat-trick with a Darren Bent-esque poacher’s finish before Luigi also completed his hat-trick after a good ball from new boy Willem who came on and made a strong case for a starting role, not to mention Pete, Cian, Sam and Jordan who all came on and slotted into the team as if no changes had been mind to keep the FCB Rolls Royce running, and to give manager Rami, even more headaches – always a good problem to have.

The eighth goal came from fresh-legged Jordan Maston who unleashed a powerful shot which was definitely going in anyway, but took a slight deflection to take it past the keeper before Calum slotted one to the keeper’s left, and then lobbing the opposition keeper to make it 10-0. The final and surely the highlight of the game when Luigi, who clearly wasn’t content with just the hat-trick, pulled off a stunning bicycle kick to put the icing on the cake of a very professional
performance from the boys.

What would’ve pleased the manager the most was the enthusiasm and willingness to do the simple but correct things throughout the whole match which, in the end, proved too much for the visitors.
