Recap

La Elipa hosted another top of the table clash this week when Espacio Monsul paid their second visit of the calendar year to try and take the 3 points away from the Brit Boys. They would be, yet again, unsuccessful!

The game started in frantic fashion for Britanicos with attack after attack, leaving Jorge leaning on a post, wondering if he should have made the decision to sit this one out too… Within 3 minutes, a corner was won and delivered into the six yard box causing confusion for the Monsul players leaving Johan Keith to stab a shot away that bounced off more defenders than a ball being pinged about in a pinball machine. 1-0.

Soon after, another corner was won. The delivery was better than a Deliveroo driver trying to secure a 5 star rating and Lewis ‘wants to have the same hair as Chema, Paco and/or Ish’ Jones rose highest to head home and make it 2-0.  The game settled into some form of normality with both teams keeping possession well. The Brit back line were defending resolutely and strongly with stand-in centre half Rob ‘racket sports’ Devall slotting in well alongside Jimmy and Gonzalo. Three ball playing centre halves showing the talent in this squad, but doing nothing for Rami’s blood pressure! With chances a plenty, the fans were enjoying their day out in the sun to watch such a spectacle. If only the referee had got the message the day wasn’t all about him!!

Against the run of play, a long ball through the middle bounced and deceived All Round Coaching’s one and only Jimmy Jones and their striker (who I picked up is called ‘Javi’ after Fleck’s team talk which centered solely around ‘Javi’) managed to flick the ball around Jorge and into the net to make the score 2-1 going into the half.

The team talks came and went, the sun continued to shine, the ref continued to be an ‘interesting’ character.

The second half was more of the same from both teams. Lots of possession, lots of energy. EQ had made his entrance at half time and he grabbed the centre midfield spot by the scruff of the neck and started to move the ball well. He would also be involved in the third goal for Brit, receiving the ball from a break down in play on the edge of the area, driving hard into the box and going down under a cynical foul from the defender. The referee had no choice but to point to the spot (even though there was definitely some reluctance in the action). After seeing penalties missed at the same end recently, both by Brit players and by youngsters previously, Lewis stepped up confidently. Would he chip it like last time? Would he break the curse of missed penalties at the changing room end? Would it be 3-1? Of course it would! Confidently smashed into the bottom corner and the crowd went wild. Now it was just a case of seeing the game out and taking the three points all the way to the bar. However, Monsul didn’t seem to get the message and a lucky break on the edge of the box ended up with a deflected shot into the bottom corner to make it 3-2.

Changes were made with Ish and Pricey brought on to freshen things up. Unfortunately, neither got the correct message with Pricey taking his Welsh roots a little too seriously and smashing everything he could into touch and Ish channeling his inner Peter Crouch at the Bernabeu – coming on, running about a bit, smashing two people, earning two yellow cards and ending up back on the subs bench leaving Brits down to 10 men. Total playing time – 15:23! How did the team respond? By going 4-2 up, that’s how! And who else? Lewis ‘loves a hat trick against Monsul’ Jones. A great turn 25 yards out and a wonderfully hit shot into the bottom corner putting the game beyond doubt. All the boys had to do now was keep the ball.

As the season has gone though, there’s always a bit more room for controversy in the team and after seeing Ish get his marching orders, Chema decided to channel his inner Michael Jordan both with taking it personally and by changing sports briefly by making the best (and most ridiculous) handball to stop a free kick floating into the box. Cue the weekly Rami Rant at Chema! Thankfully enough, the game soon ended. The Britanico boys taking the 3 points and sitting pretty at the top of the league, 5 points clear with 5 games to go!

Fleck’s comment of the day: ‘I’m going to whack that ref on the head like the Flintstones’
Rami’s comment of the day: ‘F***ing hell Simmo I am going to take you off if you don’t f***ing put that mask back on…(2mins later) Simmo, you’re my MOM so far’
