On what was the coldest morning of the season so far FCB ventured south with depleted ranks. The usual 17 man strong squad was a paltry 12. The line up in the back was Jorge in net, Pete and Ricky right and left back respectively with Rama and Macca holding the middle. Cían and Matt played through the middle with Dave and Harry attacking the wings, Sam the speedster was up too with Luigi playing… well he plays where he wants.

The game started with FCB having complete control. This passes penetrated the lines and they found the pockets of space. Defensively the press and interception was spot on and soon that led to the first goal. 0-1. Sam showed his speed and broke through to chip the keeper and Cian headed home. Pressing again the ball broke to Matt who lobbed the keeper from the middle of the park. 0-2. A loose ball then broke to Sam who, rather selflessly squared the ball to Luigi who tapped it in 0-3. Dave was having a hard time on the small pitch but broke down the right and beat two defenders to set up Luigi for his second. 0-4.

Half time

The Brits were feeling confident and upbeat when the second half started but it was a tale of two halves. The pressing stopped and the passing became long balls which were not working. This gave the men in red a chance to attack consistently. It’s was scrappy and not to the standard that FCB hold themselves. New recruit Borja came on for Cian and was eager to make his mark. Some better passing and movement led to a free kick on the left side of pitch which Matt swung in for FCB vet Gary to head in. 0-5. It looked to be a clean sheet and convincing shoreline, if not second half. In the final minute of the game a free kick was given away on the edge of the area and the defensive line was on the 18. The ball came in and was flicked past Jorge. 1-5.
