Late goal cruel blow for battling Bunwer

05/05/2012 – La Elipa

FCB Bunwer 1-2 Restaurante Alconada

It was another bitterly disappointing Saturday morning for FCB Bunwer, with the now routine “pipped to the post” feeling rippling through the team at the final whistle. After a shaky first 5 minutes, FCB moved an extra man into the centre of midfield, and dominated the game against a Restaurante Alconada side who have won 4 out of 4 since the league split. Mark gave the Brits the lead after great pressure on the visitors’ keeper lead to a mistake, allowing a finish from a tight angle. Ishmael Majid almost made it two after great work from Madris flashed the ball across the 6 yard box, but he was unable to connect with the goal at his mercy. The lead lasted until just after half time when, controversially, table topping Alconada scored with a drilled shot from outside the box, despite Fletch having been fouled and remaining motionless on the FCB penalty spot. FCB regrouped though, and it looked firm favourites to restore their lead, however they spurned several chances from close range and found the Restaurante Alconada keeper desperate to atone his earlier errors. With only minutes remaining on the clock, the visitors struck the cruel and crucial blow. After some creative flair from the winger, a fabulous chipped through ball allowed an on-rushing midfielder to lift the ball beyond Matt Yea in the FCB net. Rami’s lads’ poor run continues, although there is clearly life in the team yet.
