Cafeteria El Frances 1-2 FC Britanico
After 3 consecutive wins with Ally “Captain Marvel” Renucci at the helm, FC Britanico Bunwer lined up against the volatile Peruvians of Cafeteria El Frances as follows: Matt Hutchinson in goal (great to see the big man back between the sticks), Charles Boyle, Mike Ojo, Ally (him) Renucci and Nick Boyle in defence, Chris Parker, Alex, Michael, Ish and Emeka across the midfield and George up front. Warming the bench was Zak, Sean, Ben, Dave, Luke and Silky.
So after last seasons ‘fractious’ encounter and an adrenalin pumping build up to this match, the game began with FCB on the offensive and winning a couple of early free kicks which CEF protested in their usual game disrupting fashion, barracking the referee and holding up play for the best part of 5 + minutes. Once the tea and biscuits had been cleared away the resulting free kicks resulted in nothing for FCB but the first goal came after Nick was put away down the left hand side, beat his man and pulled the ball back for the oncoming Michael to coolly slot home from close range to give the lads a 0-1 lead. The visitors then began to implement the steely edge that is becoming an encouraging part of their play recently by continuing to build the momentum with a lot of balls out to the wide players and Chris Parker slicing up the middle to mount FCB attacks. The second goal wasn’t long in coming when Ish fired in a shot which the keeper parried into the path of Emeka who buried the rebound to double the lead 0-2. The half wasn’t done there as CEF won a free kick and blasted a bullet of a shot from 40 yards which Hutch just about tipped onto the bar. From the resulting corner FCB failed to close down the bullet man who finally made sure by lashing in a left footer which nestled perfectly in the top corner 1-2. Good half from FCB but unfortunately they lost Alex to a knee injury who was replaced by Ben Wilkins.
Second half was a goalless affair but not without incident. Substitutions were made, Zak for Emeka, Sean for Mike Ojo, Luke for Michael and Dave ‘Muay Thai’ Hughes for George. Like last week it was smooth change and CEF just couldn’t find a way past the resolute FCB formation eventually resorting to the long ball strategy which was easily dealt with by Ally and Co. The lads hit the post towards the end of the half as they endeavoured to kill the game off with a third goal but it wasn’t to be, 1-2 it remained and the undefeated run stretches back to 6th October.
The pre match talk of boxing gloves and hiring Thai boxing hitmen proved unnecessary in the end as FCB’s football did the talking loud and clear.

You can’t judge a book by its cover the saying goes and this was certainly applicable to Cafeteria El Frances on Saturday morning. The corresponding fixture last season was marred by trouble and abandoned with about 5 minutes to play due to CEF losing control with promises of “we won’t forget this” so FCB could be forgiven for thinking this would be war (as talk of boxing gloves and Muay Thai fighters being brought testified). However, the South Americans were a shadow of themselves this time around and the match passed off peacefully with FCB notching a further victory 1-2.
